Sleek Magazine - Fashion now - Art forever!
Article about “...the multifarious practices of making with traditional materials...”
Sleek Magazine no. 37, Spring 2013, the article “Craft: The revival”:
“The Danish artist and activist who goes by the name of Hanne G is best known for her provocative, boldly politicised pieces made out of crochet and knit. She picks up stereotypically male, aggressive symbols which she reproduces in the softest of wools. Her “Crochet for Peace” series of 2007 consisted of fuzzy gasmasks and rifles – suggesting spending the country’s defence budget on wool rather than guns. As for her “Lady Weapons”, they consist of archetypical domestic items associated with femininity, ranging from broomsticks to rolling pins and g-strings. Suddenly, these potentially violent objects seem more aggressive than their male counterparts. Mission accomplished.”
